House of
Order: Latin for Families
This program is intended for the learning of
latin from ages 3 to 12. Three levels are
involved:
TALKALOT
- lessons can
begin about ages 3 on up. With pictures,
rhythmic chants, activities and games, teach Latin
for about 20 minutes. According to
your situation, teach these classes as little as one
day a week, or as frequently as five days per
week. Teach all your children together ages
3-12.
EARLY
- Each child who
can read and write, is now given a writing assignment
from TALKALOT based on what is appropriate for that
child. A child just beginning to write might be
given one important word to trace.
A twelve-year0old might be given an eight-line
section of a chant to copy once, twice or three
times. For children under age 8 or 9, Latin
study is complete when they finish the writing
assignment.
ADVANCE!
- Having
participated in TALKALOT and completed a writing
assignment appropriate to each child, students of
about 8 or 9 through 12 now engage in a series of
games and activities designed to help them organize
in their own minds, and commit to long-term memory,
the structures of Latin. Once they have begun,
students of these ages will probably be able to play
the games with your constant
involvement.
The teacher will begin by teaching
the TALKALOT material with all
the children. When that part is finished, children who can't
write are excused and the others will do the EARLY portion
by copying the
material. Then those who are ready will do the ADVANCE!
portion and play games to learn grammar.
It's best
to begin at ages 3 to 5, however, children can begin this
program at any time. 7 to 10 year olds find this just as much
fun and may learn faster.
The teacher does
not have to know Latin in order to teach this program.
Just stay a lesson ahead and learn Latin along with your
children. Instructions are also included on how to hold a
class.
